After India’s recent Operation Sindoor strike on Pakistan, the wounded nation, Pakistan is again raising tensions with India. According to a media report, Indian diplomats in Islamabad are facing difficulties as basic services like newspapers, gas, and clean water are being stopped. The Indian government has not yet made any official statement on this. It is believed these actions are intended to make life and work difficult for Indian diplomats in Pakistan’s capital.
According to a TV news report, top government sources said that Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, is behind this harassment of Indian diplomats.
According to the report, sources revealed that the SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) has installed pipelines in the Indian High Commission premises, but the supply is being deliberately stopped. Allegedly, Pakistani authorities have also forbidden gas cylinder suppliers from providing cylinders to Indian staff.
The report further states that the supplier contracted to deliver clean drinking water to the Indian mission is also being stopped from making deliveries. Sources say that this has caused difficulties for the staff since tap water without filtration is not safe to drink. The report also mentions that all newspaper suppliers have been barred from delivering newspapers to the mission. The reason behind this is believed to be keeping officials away from print media and depriving them of local information.
According to government sources cited in the report, Pakistan’s decisions violate the Vienna Convention.
Notably, tensions between India and Pakistan have persisted since the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. The terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has further worsened the situation. On both occasions, India retaliated by destroying terrorist camps. In 2019, India responded with the Balakot airstrike, and in May, Operation Sindoor was carried out as retaliation for Pahalgam.
These recent steps by Pakistan to restrict essential services to Indian diplomats in Islamabad appear aimed at escalating diplomatic tensions and making life difficult for the mission staff. Such actions not only violate international diplomatic norms but also risk further deteriorating already strained relations between the two countries.
